When you are different do you try to blend in or do you dare to stand out? There are distinct cultural differences between Africa and Europe. Should Africans in Europe do away with their traditions (including their dress) unless they are around other Africans in the name of being authentic and cohesive with the environment? These are questions I have asked my self as a second generation Nigerian who was born and bred in Britain.
However, I have now learned to embrace my culture. I want to advocate that the diaspora and second generations should feel the self affirmation that comes with embracing and propagating culture no matter how far from home they are. Dare to be different from the crowd and show off the decadence and opulence of Nigerian clothing and culture!
